Malaria is a disease caused by the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito, which carries the plasmodium parasite. During the mosquito bite, the parasite is released into the bloodstreams.
These parasites then travel to the liver to mature. After several days of maturity, these parasites enter the bloodstream & hence infecting red blood cells. Malaria fever is mostly found in tropical and subtropical zones, where it can easily survive for days.
The symptoms of malaria may take several days to develop. Also, in certain cases, it is seen that symptoms take months to show. The common symptoms include:
- High fever
- Excessive sweating
- Fever chills
- Abdominal pain
- Muscle Pain
- Blood in stool
Home Remedies for Malaria
The 1st stage to prevent malaria is to avoid mosquito bites by using mosquito repellants and nets. And in Ayurveda there are many effective home remedies for malaria, using which you can be cured.
Grapefruit contains a compound called quinine, which is used in malaria disease to prevent malaria parasites. It destroys parasites and strengthens the immunity system simultaneously. It is also a great source of Vitamin-A, C, and dietary fibers.
A malaria patient should consume 1-2 glass of grapefruit juice 1-2 times a day to treat malaria.
Cinnamon contains a compound called cinnamaldehyde which is a natural anti-inflammatory agent. It also kills parasites in the body. It provides relief from body aches and increases appetite.
Boil cinnamon powder in water and consume this solution with honey to treat malaria.
In Ayurvedic books “Tulsi” is described as an effective cure for malaria. It eases the inflammation and joint pains caused due to malaria.
Take a few Tulsi leaves & make a paste. Then add this paste into boiling water and let the solution boil for few minutes. Then add honey in the solution and consume this while hot. Repeat 2-3 times a day for malaria.

Ginger is a common herb that is available in every Indian household. It is used to treat conditions like nausea, fever, cold, and other infections. It is also beneficial for improving appetite.
Take small chopped pieces of ginger and add it to boiling water. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes and then consume it while hot. It prevents malaria as well as speeds up the recovery process.
Fever Nuts (Kantakareja)
Fever nuts have many medicinal properties. It treats malaria and strengthens our immunity system. It reduces fever and other malaria symptoms effectively. Fever nuts are considered as the best home remedy for malaria disease.
Apple cider vinegar (ACV)
ACV is beneficial for reducing nausea and vomiting during fever. Add 10-20 ml of ACV to one glass of warm water and consume it to prevent malaria symptoms.
Turmeric is considered as the king of spices due to its medicinal benefits. It has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and helps in flushing out the harmful toxins out from the body. Turmeric is also helpful in killing the malaria parasite.
Add turmeric powder to one glass of warm milk and consume it every night to prevent malaria.
